Because he had to deliver Israeli food, a Deliveroo delivery boy from Strasbourg refused, explaining that he would not deliver to Jews.

It is an anti-Semitic word and act.

We can note that this delivery man shares, consciously or not, the self-interested confusion, maintained by the government, which has reigned for too long, between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism.

In our region, Alsace, BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) activists from Mulhouse have been convicted multiple times, but the European Court of Human Rights contradicted the judgment and the official position of France.

The announced investigation could have enlightened us: did this delivery man want to attack the Jews or the State of Israel? But a TGV [high-speed train] justice sentenced this young Algerian delivery man to 4 months in prison and heavy damages. When he comes out of prison, he will be expelled by the OQTF (Obligation to leave French territory) pronounced by the prefect of Alsace.

In any case, the confusion between Jewish and Israeli, anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism is constantly maintained by the French government, by the European Union, by the State of Israel, by the CRIF (Council “representative” of the Jews of France) [French AIPAC & ADL] and representatives of Jewish, secular and religious communities, with very rare exceptions.

Anti-Semitism is anti-Jewish racism, just as Islamophobia is anti-Muslim racism.

These are offenses punishable by law, except that the former is more often prosecuted and convicted than the latter, although the latter is more common at the moment, with repeat offender spokespersons like Eric Zemmour and many other voices who have, as for them, open microphones in the media.

In the current absence of Israel’s ambassador to France, it is a charge d’affaires, Daniel Saada, who has traveled from Paris to support victimized restaurateurs and Alsatian Jewish institutions.

And the whole problem is there.

In what capacity is the Israeli embassy intervening in a legal case of alleged anti-Semitism in France? Just like the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr. Netanyahu, when, after terrorist attacks, he offered the protection of his country to the Jews of France and even encouraged them to emigrate to their so-called country, stolen from the Palestinian people.

How can we fail to understand the role played by these confusions and amalgams, maintained by Zionism and its representatives, whether they are Israelis, French, Jews or non-Jews, evangelicals or by French politicians, of the right, of the extreme right , and even, alas, of the left, and foreign anti-Semitic leaders, like Orban in Hungary who all declare themselves to be friends of the Jews.

This confusion, wanted by both anti-Semites and Zionists, who pursue the same goal —that all Jews emigrate to Israel— has the consequence of increasing traditional anti-Semitism in Alsace and throughout France.

Who does not see the daily efforts of all these unsavory people to establish and maintain the false equation anti-Zionism = anti-Semitism?

Well no, definitely no!

There are certainly anti-Semites who hide behind an anti-Zionist mask. Recently, one of them, Alain Soral, was convicted in Colmar, rightly for a “quenelle” carried out in front of the Judicial Court of that city and that is justice.

But, just as the BDS activists of Mulhouse are resolute opponents of the criminal policy of the Zionist state, but by no means anti-Semites, so there are in France and in the world anti-Zionists and even an association, the Union of French Jews for Peace, of which I have been a member since 1994, who fight the State of Israel and all its friends, a State which practices day after day an Apartheid policy against the Palestinians and illegally occupies the land of this people, reduced to survive in Bantustans whose surface only represents, in 2021, a mere 15% of historic Palestine.

Nothing can justify anti-Semitism which must be fought as all racism should be, against Muslims, Arabs, Blacks, Roma, Asians and LGBTQIA +, considered different from the “real” French.

Faced with the complicity of almost all the states of the world, including, recently Saudi Arabia, and the laissez-faire attitude of international organizations like the UN or the European Union, the Palestinian people can only count on their own resistance and solidarity of the peoples through BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions).

Jean Claude Meyer, (Schlomo ben Jacov), Alsatian Jew, anti-Zionist, member of the Jewish Community of Bas-Rhin, and of the French Jewish Union for Peace.
